Switch to the new version of AdSense for search

Labels: AdSense features
Over the last two years, the AdSense team has offered the powerful Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) product as an improvement over the original AdSense for search. After some recent improvements, we're now ready to retire the older version of AdSense for search. If the Google logo on your search results page reads "Powered by Google" instead of the newer "Google Custom Search" then you haven't yet upgraded to the newer version. The new AdSense for search with CSE is available in your account, and we encourage you to make the switch by updating your code as soon as possible.
AdSense for search with CSE gives you more control over your search results without changing how you earn money showing AdSense for search ads. For example, with the new version, you'll have access to advanced features like refinements and promotions. Our team has developed a number of updates and improvements during the past few months, and you can access more advanced features at www.google.com/cse.
Your existing AdSense for search box will continue to work normally for a few more months, and we'll be sure to update you when we retire this version. To take advantage of the benefits offered by the new version of AdSense for search and ensure you don't miss any revenue during the transition, we encourage you to update your code now. You'll just need to regenerate your AdSense for search code by signing in to your account and following these instructions:
- Visit your "AdSense Setup" tab and select "AdSense for Search."
- Select the sites you'd like your users to be able to search across (Learn More).
- Customize the look and feel of your search engine results.
- Update the code on your website.

Are people who use a Google Custom Search Engine connected to AdSense in any way affected by this?

I use Google Custom Search Elements on this page,
www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk
With Elements the results appear on whichever page you put the search box.
Will we still be able to do that, or will we have to create a new search box for every page if we want the results to stay on the same page?

Google has made a point of integrating website speed into its page rank, and Google webmaster tools insists we minimize DNS lookups, yet Google's CSE code includes a DNS lookup for their branding style sheet:
(<)style type="text/css">
@import url(http://www.google.com/cse/api/branding.css);
)
Why is that? How do I get around the fact Google code is slowing my page load speed?
Also, I've NEVER been able to get more than one Google search box active on the same page. Imho, Google is dropping the ball on helping us with this complicated and important feature.

My Google Search code is some months old, but I see that I have the Google Custom Search text.
Does that mean I don't need to change the code?
When exactly was the switch to the new code from the old?
Seems I have the new code.

I appreciate Google's AdSense Team trying new ways to increase the take rate on our AdSense advertisements. However, the move to a new format in the 728 x 90 leaderboard is ill advised.
The new form provides a "heavier" workload for the visual system, as it is harder to read due to decreased contrast ratios surrounding the ads (an issue of conspicuity). Next, the new format will lead many of your advertisers to abandon leaderboards, since that ragged array of long text strings is a distraction. We use leaderboard at the top of our pages and they work quite well in their present format - but we will not use them in the future with the new text strings do to the fact that they will tend to obfuscate the design of the page.
I suspect your tests, showing improved performance with the new formats elicited the response you were hoping for, but testing of this nature and the confounded responses they evoke, rarely are demonstrated in a real world experience once they are adopted.
Thanks anyway,
Mike

Hi there
Most of my Adsense-income is coming from 'Adsense for search'. After having implemented the new CSE-technique i noticed dramatic drop of CTR/eCPM. I reversed the implemtation and still use the old technique.
Please have a look at this.
What i also miss in CSE is that the default-behaviour is not configurable: i prefer to first search 'The Internet' and optionally afterwards search 'My domain'.
