AdSense Facts & Fiction Part IV: Program policies
Tuesday, July 06, 2010 | 12:10:00 PM
Labels: Facts and Fiction , Program Policies
Fiction: AdSense disables accounts and issues warnings at random.
Fact: We rely upon a detailed set of guidelines when looking at policy violations, and these policies are published in our Help Center. Our intent is to keep Google's content and search networks safe and clean for our advertisers, users and publishers. We seek to be as transparent and consistent with our decision making.
Part of our job of monitoring the AdSense network involves working with publishers to identify and address potential issues. We understand that there are a lot of policies to take into account, and so for minor policy violations our first step will be to issue a warning. The reasons a publisher might receive a warning will vary, but in general they tend to be for violations that can be fixed fairly easily. Examples of these violations range from deceptively labeling ads “Today’s hot deals” to having a minimal amount of adult-content comment spam in a forum. Publishers, after receiving a warning, are given three days to fix their violations. If changes are not made in that time, ad serving will be disabled to the violating site.
There are some situations when we would need to disable ad serving to a site without first sending a warning. We usually reserve this action for egregious violations like adult content, copyright infringement, as well as cases of extreme violence and gore. We may also disable ads to a site when we find a violation that we’ve already contacted a publisher about in the past.
The final and most severe action that our teams can take is to close down an account completely. This normally only happens when we find that a publisher’s entire network consists of violating sites or for repeat policy offenders. If you have received a policy notification from the AdSense team, please visit this help center entry for additional information.
We want to point out that notifications that result from the previously mentioned policy violations are different from notifications sent because of issues with invalid click activity, which are monitored by Google's Ad Traffic Quality Team. Invalid click activity consists of any clicks or impressions that may artificially inflate an advertiser's costs or a publisher's earnings, and for which we decide not to charge the advertiser. For more information about invalid clicks and impressions, please refer to this page, which includes a link to our FAQ page for accounts disabled due to invalid activity.
Lastly, we highly recommend reviewing these guidelines to help avoid policy violations, and to help keep your AdSense account in good standing.

Is it possible to do something with 3 days, when publisher is emailed? Imagine freelance developers on 2 weeks vacation, or smaller companies, who has only one developer - this time limit is simply destruction of AdSense account for them. In case of disabling ads serving this is almost impossible to start receiving ads in short time. I understand that this is everyone's thing to have their sites under TOS, but this limit is simply non-logical for these groups of people.

Thanks for this post, which does a good job of addressing one of my main concerns about investing in Adsense publishing.
We're not quite there yet though.
I hope Google will consider offering Adsense publishers the OPTION of paid support, and that you might address this topic in a future article here.
Simply put, would Google invest in a partnership with me, if there was no way to contact and communicate with me?
I realize it's not reasonable to ask that Google provide free support to over a million Adsense publishers. To be clear, that's not what I'm suggesting.
Instead, I'm hoping you'll see a paid support option as a way to identify those Adsense publishers that are serious about building a long term mutually beneficial relationship with Google.
Successful partnerships are built upon effective _two way_ communication.
Thanks for considering this proposal.

Well for a moment I thought that the email you sent me is a warning about violating your program polices, but when I saw your explanation that this is different from notification sent to publisher on violation I realized that I have no issues with my accout!
Thank you for this nice post guys, really this has cleared many points.

I appreciate that you must have policies to prevent malpractice and ultimately protect advertisers. But I do think the Adsense team are too hard on publishers sometimes.
I have a website that violated TOS as I foolishly put text above the Adsense. I was new to Adsense and was advised wrongly on a forum. Unfortunately I did not rectify the problem quickly enough and had Adsense disabled for that website.
I accept full responsibility for the error and when I did finally realise what I needed to do to rectify the problem I contacted the Adsense team. They said the website would not be allowed to have Adsense back on it. I emailed again a year later. Again I was told the same.
Why does the Adsense team not give the benefit of the doubt to publishers who have made a genuine minor error? They are never allowed a second chance, even though the issue had been fixed.

I know that I had a website that was blacklisted from adsense for no discernible reason, and google never got back to me as to how to fix it, so I'm somewhat perplexed to read this. it seemed somewhat random to me at the time, and I never heard anything different from the adsense team...

I don't know why did my adsense account is disabled. Many time i listen that they will sent email if you make any invalid click or something which is against to their terms and condition. But i didn't get any email except one email that your account is disabled. I want tell you that, I haven't made any invalid click because i know it is against the Google Adsense, then why i will do.
My account was disabled after the 4 month of creation. The first and major problem which i face, i didn't got the pin, I used to request for the pin regularly and the pin was in the letter box of another wing, and i used to search pin in the letter box of my wing only, because In my adsense account i had given the address of mine "C" wing . When my account was disabled after few days i was searching my bank statement in another wing of my building, my building have five wings a,b,c,d,e. In D wing i got the pin, and i used to search my pin in the letter box of my wing only(I think by requesting again & again for pin Google may take it in wrong way and consider false person). It's the fault of postman who had put the pin on wrong wing. I think all this happen because of postman fault. I have the pin i can show you the number if you ask.
Sir i am very loyal to adsense, i have never did any mistake then also this is happened to me. I had visited to adsense forum and started one forum about it but didn't got any response. I had also started forum in digital forum there also i didn't got any response. Sir, please think about the whole incident then only take the decision. I hope Google is always fair to its publisher. My publisher id is pub- 2709849663816950.

My blog, momentumsignal.blogspot.com,
is being rejected by Adsense for the reason 'Unacceptable site content'.
I do not find anything wrong with the contents of my blog. The blog's contents are strictly according to the Adsense site content policies. Now, will anyone explain what is wrong with my contents ? Otherwise, I feel ridiculed by some computer program !!

My publisher number was placed by the webite owner of webanswers on an url that is evidently in violation of a google adsense policy. Now Google is going to disable my account, even though I cannot control the placing of my publisher number on their pages as it is a revenue sharing website. How can google help the millions of us that are on revenue sharing websites which we have no control over the content or placement of our publisher number??

Report it to Adsense and let them know you are handling it. BUT also go into your account and block that domain. I am Not sure about this, but check: AdSense Setup & Site Authentication. It might work under "Restricted"
Plus it Sounds like you will have to send them a Cease and Desist. Look for some legal templates online. Basically, if they don't comply that you will charge them Criminally, Civilly and Legally for Fraud.
Come on over to the Adsense Forum too. Might Find a Better Answer:

I have 9 sites running Google Adsense with a total of around 6000 pages.
My Adsense account has been in good standing for the past 4 years.I have the highest respect for Google and have been a vocal ambassador for this company.
My account has been disabled due to invalid click activity.
I lodged an appeal, asking for help on how to avoid invalid click activity.
I got a standard response, stating that my account was disabled, no assistance was offered. No further explanation was given and there is no facility for further communication.
I am now left with 6000 pages to edit on hand coded sites.
So if you were to ask me is it fact or fiction Andres Schabelman, I'll let you be the judge.
Oh and I might add that the Adsense team sent me this message yesterday:
"Our system analyzed 21 pages across your domain, kimbro.net, and found only one Google ad unit per page on 16 of your pages. The AdSense program currently allows placing up to three ad units on each page, and we strongly suggest you do so."
I realize that it is in everyones interest to protect the advertizers from click fraud.
However from a publishers point of view it is a misscariage of justice and a huge insult to
stand accused without regress or a chance at a fair reveiw.
I have tried to phone Google and got an automated response stating that they do not respond to
Adsense inquires with a direction to go to the FAQ on the website.
As a huge company why does Google have no form of direct contact with its publishing partners?
You state "Our intent is to keep Google's content and search networks safe and clean for our advertisers, users and publishers. We seek to be as transparent and consistent with our decision making."
Transparent: Clear as an empty glass.
Consistent: If Google is consistent why have they dissabled my account after 4 years. I have
made no changes.
At the same time as being accused of invalid click activity - I am being advised by the Adsense
team after reviewing one of my sites to add more advertising - now that's consistency?
I don't believe that Google disables accounts and issues warnings at random.
I also don't believe that Google is transparent and consitent with their decision making.
Kitty Jellinek.

An _option_ for paid support is the solution to all these problems.
But it seems neither Google or it's publishers are serious about professional communication, so being an Adsense publisher will remain a Las Vegas crapshoot.

I was disabled after barely 3 weeks in the program. I haven't a clue why. No explanation. Just poof...gone. No warning, no nothing. C'mon Google. I'm in the program 3 weeks and I get nothing? At least tell me how I can fix the problem, send the money back to the advertisers, which is perfectly reasonable, and let me get back up and running...earning that whopping $1/day or so.
Look, I have no idea what I'm doing with code and stuff. This could've been a "teaching moment" as we say with our kids. But no, just me and Google's servers having a little heart to heart with zero human involvement.
Really disappointed to be cut off with no explanation, no warning and not even an attempt to show me why the account was disabled. When I appealed, again, i got the automated message with ZERO clarification. Why?
Finally, your preview tool works really great for your thousands of Mac-based customers....NOT. So how do we preview our ads, pray tell? Sorry, I hold my consumers in higher regard that you do yours, apparently. Well, let me rephrase that...I communicate with my customers. Yeah, that's more what i wanted to say.
Great non-service there, Google! Fun times for those of us new to the concept of AdSense.

Thanks to AdSense Team for this announcement. From the many lines, one statement of yours that really made me happy. I am very glad knowing that you'll notice me if I violated any term stipulated in the AdSense Policies completely with grace period to complete my rectification works. This is the thing which I must salute and respect.
You know why? Last time one of my blogs had been deleted without prior notice that should be sent to me by The Blogger Team. A real and total painstaking! But, who am I to go against their decision point. I am only a pumpkin and they're the sharp knife.
In this case, I respect The AdSense Team much more than I respect The Blogger Team. Please send the notice first instead of vanishing my property as a user because sometime I read the term in different views. Letting me know for what thing that I'd done wrong is a real mutual respect between both parties.
Thank you, AdSense Team.

Wow. this Post is a Year old and people are still posting about Adsense issues. But there is a Good reason why: People and business are frustrated with being disabled without a real explanation while following all the rules.
I don't think ANYONE knows what IS fact or fiction about Adsense. Nothing is consistent. So following the rules and watching your account is not enough.
Plus Clickbombing is an issue. On YouTube, there is no way to know where the clicks are coming from. There is no way to keep or read a log.
SKshowcase, I guess their system didn't flag the site/account. But it would have to be following the rules in order to do that.
I know we all just want to follow the rules and work WITH adsense. I was never trying top bilk the system and Google and Adsense just do not care.
The more disabled accounts there are, the more Local and Federal Authorities will want to look into these isses. Google is already being investigated for other issues. It is just ashame.

Well months have passed since my last comment here and in case any one is interested in how I resolved the issue of getting banned as a Google Adsense Publisher you can go to:
http://www.kimbro.net/Adsense-Publishing.html
I got reinstated but told Google was no longer interested in their so-called partnership.
Doing what I did may solve the problems for many here.
