A note about a messaging change in your AdSense account

Today we're changing some messaging in the AdSense interface concerning your earnings, and we wanted to give you some more information on why we're making this change.
In order to be more transparent about how our system calculates earnings, we've added the words "Estimated" and "Finalized" next to "Earnings" throughout your account. Rest assured these terminology changes don't reflect a change to the way your finalized earnings are calculated. It's simply intended to give you a clearer idea of what's our estimation of your earnings and what's finalized.
As you may have noticed in the past, the earnings on the Overview and Advanced Reports pages may sometimes differ from the earnings listed on your Payment History page. This is because earnings on your Overview and Advanced Reports pages reflect initial estimations based on our records. We aren't able to provide finalized earnings on these pages because they still need to be verified for accuracy, a process that takes place a few days after the end of every month. The finalized sum is then posted on your Payment History page by the 10th of the next month.
While we can't say how much these amounts would differ for any one publisher, most publishers will not see a significant difference. Again, please keep in mind that this is only a display change, and that your finalized earnings will continue to be calculated and credited to you in the same way as before.
Updated to include screenshots and Help Center links

I also see only estimated earnings, but I guess it's because you haven't implemented the feature yet.
And yes, it's great, any upgrade to the systems that helps us get the more accurate picture of our earnings is more than wellcome.

Are there changes going on that were not mentioned here? Yesterday and today my channel data is showing $27+ for single clicks, which is impossible, and of course isn't credited to my earnings. I hope this cliche is fixed soon.

I don't like the addition of more words to cover the modifications to google policies.
This is very greedy and unprofessional in my opinion.
a few years from now, i can imagine google change the "Today's Estimated Earnings" to "Today's Estimated Possible Earnings *** "
* Blah Blah Blah
** Blah Blah Blah
***
Just cluttering the pages with unnecessary information just like what happened to google's main page.
Don't like these changes at all.

This is not more transparency, it is less.
Transparency is how it was - the earnings you saw were the earnings you received. Now, the earnings can be adjusted at the end of the cycle, and we can be pretty confident that they will never be adjusted upwards.

It seems that only estimates are shown in everybodies accounts.
More strange is that talking to collegues learns that everybody I talk to is losing more than 30% in adsense since the implementation you did.
Very very strange.

Please help me understand why my "estimated earnings for each channel adds up to $170 dollars but my "total earnings equal $140. The total estimated earning should equal the estimating earnings from each channel but it DOES NOT.

My estimated earnings are, since this "display change", down 50% per click from average per click earnings over the past several months.
This really smells like an emergency measure to ensure q4 financial reports that won't cause a fall in share values. It smells to me like q4 revenue targets were not met.

WOW! Google has never even remotely been transparent about our earnings and adding estimated next to anything doesn't help.
Maybe you guys should start by actually being more transparent instead of pretending to be.

Not good AT ALL!
The previous way reflected the EXACT amount of money i will receive at the end of the month (it was really always the same as the 'finalized' amount)
The way Google now has implemented is just a big gamble on how much i will receive. It doesn't make sense to me.
And as venkat says, it does not give me a good idea how good my ads are doing.
Very VERY disappointed...

Note to above: the last 2 days i get estimated earnings on ads that have 0 clicks. So this is the new way Google now calculate earnings?
"I (Google Adsense) think you will receive 5 clicks today, so i ad $2 to that channel"
Like WTF?

I think Google should switch back to the older way in order to be more transparent. There's no way you can display a different amount on one's page and pay him a much lower figure at the end of the month. SERIOUSLY, switch back to the older system. MOST GUYS I'VE TALKED TO DON'T LIKE IT. Ever since it was enforced, earnings have gone down up to 80% and yet clicks are constant.

It seems that somebody really didn't like my comments above. 3 days after making those comments, I woke up this morning to find an email that my adsense account was disabled for posing "significant risk to advertisers". This is an account that I've had for over 3 years, and it contained a significant amount of money pending payment from last month and also significant amount of earnings already from this month.
As a public company, you are open to criticism for your behaviour.

I will have to say that TWO things still bug me somewhat:
1. I would like to know what the share for income is. I think it's only fair that webmasters know whether we're getting 2/3 or 50/50 of the difference between what customers pay through AdWords, and what we get through Adsense. That point was well-known when we established our accounts, I know. But openness would suit Google so we know whether we're being treated fairly or just considered yet another "webspace" in the Google-sphere.
2. Furthermore, it ought to be possible to add the target="_blank" tag to ads clicked. The diminishing earnings has forced many to consider even banners or other sources (e.g. Kontera) to add just a bit of income in this time of crisis.
These two points are not new to the Google team, but just overlooked because Google hopes we stick with them. My presumption is over 30% of webmasters ARE actively considering jumping ship as earnings further plummet.
Have a nice x-mas and a happy new year everyone. :-)

@Jaunty:
You say you made 16$ in 3 years? You should then really have nothing to say. I've checked your blogs on blogger. They are nothing special, even uglier than my own blogger blogs.
Not to mention the blog posts. Come on dude, you can't blame Google for your failures
I didn't earn anything special from Google Adsense either, but last month I earned 7$ from the only blogger blog I have, which is almost half of your 3 years earnings. My blog is also not pretty, it's not well designed, and some of the posts are quite bad, but I know it's ultimately my fault if I don't earn money from Adsense in this case.
Google is not guilty for your lack of skill in getting targeted, interested visitors, and your incompetence to post useful posts. Get off your butt and work for yourself if you really want to succeed.

@ Davor,
Good, you should use your first $10 to buy a domain name for your little joke of a blog when you get it.
January 13, 2010 8:14 AM
Davor Gasparevic said...
you think that if you have a domain your blog is better than mine?
Only the domains are what makes your blog less catastrophic.
You didn't even bother to take some better template...
My blog can be a joke, but what are your blogs then?
RoadsOut.com? BeJaunty.com? what do those domain have to do anything with the topic of your blogs? The topics? What ARE the topic of your blogs anyway? I see you posting about boatloads of various topics, there is no specific niche, so what do you expect from Adsense.
About the placement of Adsense units, on RoadsOut.com you didn't even take the time to blend the ad units, the backround of your blog is light brown and the ad is clearly not blended. If you followed the basic Adsense advices from various forums and sites you would know that the best position is under the title (like on my blog).
Second, you would know that you simply MUST use 336x280 on your blog. It's the best format and everbody who knows at least something about Adsense will tell you that.
I could go on and on rambling about your mistakes. Even buying a domain for your blog was a mistake, you wasted those 10$ for nothing, because your blogs are bad, and admit it.
I don't boast of my blog either. It's also full of mistakes and errors and everything. But at least I know that the only person to blame for my not earning enough online is me, and me only. And I am the one who must change and improve.
Once when you admit that to yourself you will know what I am talking about

@Jaunty
you OBVIOUSLY didn't read my comment dude. But that's fine, I come across dozens of such flamers and blamers like you on a daily basis. Irritating people like you jump from every corner of the world.
I'm no expert. I never say that. All I know about web design and HTML is from experience and reading what professionals suggest. And my knowledge about design and HTML is still pretty poor and low.
But you probably don't even know how to change the color of your navbar (which actually has nothing to do directly with HTML in our case), not to mention that you probably don't have a clue how to remove it. And you probably never even tried to use some other template instead of standard blogger templates, which are, frankly, outdated and simply can't look good no matter what you do. Here is the site for you to take a look at http://www.deluxetemplates.net/!
Guess what?I changed my template 2 days ago, and I removed navbar about 2 months ago. Did I know how to do it? NO! Hell, I don't even know how to do it now! But guess what, I googled for "how to remove blogger navbar" and "hot to change blogger template" and I followed the guidelines webmasters have laid in front of their audience.
If we were about to compare our blogs, the only thing that makes your blogs "better" is that you bought a domain. WOW! You are pro, your have your own domain you are at the top of the food chain.
Get out of here, people like you, who blame everybody else but themselves for not being successful make me sick and trigger me badly.
I'm not successful either. But I realized it's ME who is to blame (I've already said that in my previous reply, but since you didn't read it, I say it again hoping you will get the point this time), not Google Adsense, not Adwords, not Clickbank, not Amazon, Commission Junction or any other affiliate program or business site.
So, next time you say those nonsenses about Yahoo, Google or Time Warner, at least take the time and understand what I want to say.

@ Davor,
Just to get the record straight - and this will be the last time I'll probably reply to you because in all sincerity I have better things to do in my life than to derail other people with obnoxious comments.
Now,
According to you, I'm doing nothing right about SEO and the sort. So amazing to compare both our blogs alexa ratings,
RoadsOut.Com:
922,021
http://cheap-i-m-ebooks.blogspot.com/
1,146,189
How in the world did that happen?
Oh about templates, I should tell you that I've pretty good with skinning web designs and making templates.
I can work my around Joomla and PhpBB effectively. In fact RoadsOut.Com in reality is a site based on Joomla and PhpBB with a wonderful skin.
My site went down in june and stayed that way for two whole months when I lost a lot of my site indexed links on Google and rating as well.
It will be back up in around March. I'm working on a new version of it. All my posts on blogger will be backed up with the updated version.
Anyway, I'm sure you're doing a very good job with your blog and sincerely wanted to help me. I appreciate that.
One more thing, you're quote,
"people like you, who blame everybody else but themselves for not being successful make me sick and trigger me badly."
I only made a comment about Google Adsense. Just make a search about 'Google adsense not paying enough' and you'll find many people who think a like.
I'm sure it works for some and I feel good about that. Nothing more, nothing less.
Good day.

Look what my blog looked like before
(do you notice the surprising similarity with your roadsout.com template? It's only the color which differs). http://transitionblogtest.blogspot.com/
pretty similar to roadsout.com? It's standard thisaway blogger template. That is why I say all that.
Once again, you said something I didn't say. I didn't mention SEO anywhere. I don't mention it because my knowledge about (on-page) SEO goes that "far" (read short) to H* tags, meta tags, internal linking. Offsite SEO is of course, link building.
Alexa rankings are quite arguable, and not directly connected to SEO, and they can be easily tricked. PR is quite more important IMHO, although it can also be faked for website reselling purposes, which is obviously not the case this time
You have PR1 and PR2 for your blogs, quite like me, but I really don't understand what keywords could you possibly be targeting. PR can be achieved with good backlinks, that is what I personally know, because my blog on-page optmization still greatly sux, and I made PR1 in 3-4 months just from backlinks.
----------------------
People complain about Adsense because people don't realize Adsense is not the easiest way to make significant money online. Affiliate marketing is still the easiest way to go, despite all these Google slaps and changes.
Just because it's easy to throw out the blog with the bunch of posts and sidebar ads doesn't mean you will actually make 10-20$ tomorrow...
Affiliate marketing doesn't necessarily involve SEO, PPC, it can be done by a handful of other means like forum activities, taking part in Google, Yahoo groups, even Facebook Twitter...
