A deeper look at channels: URL channels (Part I of III)

Labels:

As many of you know, channels are a great tool for tracking the clicks and impressions on your ad units, as well as figuring out which ad placements, sizes, and colors generate the most revenue. With that in mind, three of our very own Mountain View-based AdSense optimization specialists have created videos showcasing best practices for setting up channels within your AdSense account.

In the first episode, Matthew Carpenter-Arevalo talks about URL channels which can help you track revenue on a specific URL or domain. You'll learn how to set up a channel within your AdSense account, what metrics you can track using channels, and how to use that data to increase your earnings by generating more clicks on your ads.

You can find more information about URL channels in our Help Center. Check back next week, when we'll cover custom channels.

I, on the other hand, have very little free time and would greatly prefer text without having to sit through a video...

I prefer text to videos. I have hearing loss so reading is better for me.

I have recently had video ads that were right over the print that I was trying to read. They couldn't be moved to the side - even if you watched them all the way through. I hope there's way to correct these because I am starting to just click off the pages without reading the page or seeing the ad because I can't move them at all. I definitely prefer print ads to video ads, but might like a video ad that is to the side of the page.

I love explanations done through video because I can pause-play-pause at each part which I couldn't catch up. Another thing, it provides the true 'virtual' examples in the AdSense web page. Keep it up and produce more videos. Video explanation is an add up value to the long long long texts explanation.

The Google ads that are plastered smack in the middle of the text of an article are obnoxious. Even if I am interested in what's being advertised, I find myself so annoyed that I just want to click away from the entire webpage! I refuse to click on it. There's got to be a better way to advertise, because those ads are absolute turn-offs.

It will be a great day when Google will start givig out publishers the best performig urls without the need to create url chanels.

Custom channels may stay as it is now, but do ot understand the need to create url chanels.

I would love to have both video and text. The video would be a demonstration and the text would be to understand the demonstration. This is for hearing impaired people.

I quite agree, as I know/knew some people in that situation, but for me i need both text and visual aid to learn something new.

Very good advice. However, I assume the case with these URL channels is the same as with custom channels - that the number of channels is limited for your account. You can only have about 100 channels or so, which isn't enough for people who own a big amount of websites.
