These image ads are contextually targeted, based on the link unit topic users clicked to reach the ads. If no image ads are available for the given topic, we'll only show the original text ads -- in other words, we won't show a PSA or insert a blank space in place of the image ad in this case. Advertisers can bid on these image ads on a cost-per-click (CPC) and cost-per-impression (CPM) basis, so you'll generate earnings for valid clicks and impressions. You can review the performance of image ads on your link unit pages by generating a link unit report on your Advanced Reports page.
If you aren't using link units on your pages, we encourage you to give them a try. They don't take up much space and can help add to your AdSense revenue -- learn more in our Help Center, or visit your AdSense Setup tab and select 'AdSense for content' to get started.

Amazing new functionality.
Looks like a cool feature. Have you considered moving the ad unit more to the top right? Would catch more attention there.
I'd still love to know how to use link units in AdManager.. haven't found a way yet..
Just curious, how can we see a "small addition to the page users see after clicking a link unit topic" when we, as publishers, are prohibited from clicking any links in Google ads we place on our sites? I would love to see what you mention, but I am not about to click anything!
Ditto what Hurley just asked. Is it OK for publishers to be clicking on their link units? Do they just take you to another page of ads? This is all news to me! I assumed we were not to click on link ads the same as other ads.
Lovely jubbly.
@Hurley - well I am sure the poster will answer you but as I understand, this is no problem with clicking your own link unit links as long as you don't click an actual ad after you go to the ad pages. You don't earn revenue when visitors click a the first link - you only earn revenue if they click an ad in the results pages. So you should be able to preview it.
Thanks, this is a great improvement in this hard time
I feel good when I read this article , from this article and new function , we can get idea that google adsense team always wants to support for increasing the earning of Adsense publishers .
Thanks , This is the best word for your hardwork for us
Sounds interesting I will give it a try
I would appreciate if Adsense team can actually improve the Reports for the adsense link units.
All we see is a click being recorded. Since Link Units are a 2 step process to actually get revenue, there should be some detailed reports on say "1st level clicks" and "2nd level clicks"
Thanks,
After the last site maintenance, I did a test and put ads and link units back on some of my pages and it seems things are almost back to normal. I'm getting a fair amount of clicks and usually over 4 dollars a day. It seems Google has pretty much fixed what was broken. Thought people might want to know. Now please don't mess it up again, Google.
Thanks.
