Pageview tracking back to normal

If you're displaying multiple ad units on your pages, you may have noticed that your pageviews were higher than normal for part of yesterday and today. Our engineers identified a bug which prevented ad units from detecting other units on the same page. As a result, our system logged a pageview for each ad unit that was loaded on a page, instead of a pageview for each page containing ads. In some cases, this also may have caused specific ads to appear in multiple ad units on the same page.
Please be assured that ad unit impressions were still logged correctly and ads were still displayed on your pages, so you were properly credited for all earnings generated from your ads. We've resolved the issue, and although you won't see the pageview count in your reports retroactively changed, your pageview tracking is now back to normal.
Thanks for your patience and your help in identifying this bug.

Thanks! I had noticed that and was wondering what was going on. I know the pageview count wont be fixed retroactively, but are there any plans to fix the reports and remove the extra pageviews in the future? (they end up creating artificially low eCPM rate values)

cool, thanks.
it is very hard to contact adsense for reporting this sort of bugs, and that's a problem.
this bug was apparent 2 days ago, and it took a full 24 hours and countless postings in several forums and groups to finally manage to attract the attention of adsense about the problem.
i wish there was a more efficient way to notify adsense of problems. maybe some special line with a limited number of "advanced adsense users", to prevent all the noise from the masses.

I'm not sure they are fixed in my case. Yeasterday for example, I'm showing a 500% increase in clicks, but my pageviews were within normal daily range. On the other end, the actual earnings are about 1/5 of normal daily average despite the 500% increase in clicks.
To explain more clearly here is an example (not real numbers)
Normal: 100 impressions, 10 clicks, $1.00 earned
Bug Day: 100 impressions, 50 clicks, $0.10 earned.

@Kent
the eCPM value is just cosmetic. in this case it does not affect your earnings, and it does not affect the quality or targeting of the ads on your website. so you can ignore it, basically. what ultimately counts is the earnings.

@BLOG Owner
i think the problem you describe is unrelated to the impression problem. looks like you had a lot of invalid / maybe fraudulent clicking activity on your site. you should report this to adsense using the "abnormal clicking report" form.

My problem is the same with high number of impression, but the problem is that clicks were reduced to zero. This is the first time that I register zero earning that happened after more than two months. A normal 650 impressions without a single click is indeed worrying and yesterday i was even more perplexed when the impression was showing 1200 with EVEN a single click :(

It should read..."was showing 1200 without EVEN a single click"

I have reported the weird activity. Part of the form wanted to know what dates and TIMES the fraudulent clicking occurs. Is there a time listed in a report?
Also does anyone know of any javascript or utilities that could help me see if it's a case of someone just clicking my ads to sabotage my site?

Yesterday i found sudden increase in impression like 1000 to 4000. And today increased click rate. used to get 1 to 2 $ for 20+ clicks that become 5 $. is it ok?

Thank you. I assume that even absent a direct line to Google, Google is monitoring the forums, which is probably how this promptly became known. It would have been helpful, however, had there been prompt and conspicuous acknowledgment, preferably on the reporting page itself, that Google was aware of the issue and working on it -- even before it was fixed. Personally, I was just gratified yesterday to do a Google search on the problem and quickly learn from several forums that it was systemic, not unique to me. So sometimes Google is the solution as well as the problem!

The bug we had; our impressions count normal, our eCPM, clicks, CTR, everything was OK - the earnings were messed. Where we have been getting 80% of the total earnings today it suddenly changed that we are now only earning 20%. Something very wrong. I too have notified Google a couple different ways, and have not heard anything back, nor has the problem been fixed.

@jcvdude
hundreds of people have reported the same problem with Youtube ads "host" revenue sharing having changed significantly and without notice. see the many posts on this issue in the adsense group. you are not the only one.
there has been no words from adsense about the issue (yet).
but since it affects several thousands of publishers, we can expect that some day, adsense will look into the problem.

I think the problem still exists. i am using Google Ad Manager to serve my ads. I have to manage channels as position.
So I have three inventory spots with adsense on my page, unit 1, unit 2 and unit 3.
I have a position for each unit separately and one position for all three units together. So 4 positions.
In my adsense view this shows as 4 different channels. One channel per unit and one overall channel.
Unit 1, unit 2 and unit 3 all show 100 views. The overall channel shows 300 page impressions.
This sounds a lot like the bug described above. This is still a bug in my account.

have you noticed after you got the email Pageview tracking back to normal, the CTR% have dropped?
March 31, 2009 4:01 PM
Oeroek said...
No, this problem exists for over a week already.
I noticed it because I changed the URL structure and layout and was closely monitoring the effect on my income.
1) The page impressions of overall channels are counted in the wrong way
2) my CTR and ECPM dropped 90%.
It were some bad days for me.

my adsense reports have been screwed up for over a year, since I change web hosts. doesn't count right and cut my revenues in half. There have been reoccuring problems and no one at Adsense seems to care and you can't get past an automated response

I think I'm seeing the same problem as @Oeroek my page views are showing twice the number of impressions they should. Also using Google AdManager.

@charlie, I was afraid I was the only one.
Problem still exists, the position covering more than 1 adsense unit on 1 page provides units impressions instead of pageimpressions. Subsequently reported ecmp and ctr of ad grouds are not correct.
But in the meanwhile I think I am happy I can get any ads in Admanager since there seems to be some kind of bug in the system.

I hope they fix this soon

sowayib,
There is a Big time problem as what I can see that the CTR that is the Click Through Rate is really High and that could be fake Clicks If you are trying to earn more and clicking them I would suggest not too, however if they are real then you are doing great!! I mean GREAT!!! as this kind of CTR is very impossible to get.
I would also suggest you to use the Google Analytics so that you can understand your traffic and configure your Adsense account with Google Analytics too

i was wondering why my page impression doesn't make anymore revenue..
even though my page impression is between one to three hundred daily i only get 0.01 cents (if i'm lucky enough!)
before with that page impression i earn up to more than a dollar per day..
i just don't understand why the sudden drop in revenue..it's really discouraging..did i do something wrong?
