Our Inside AdSense resolution

Here on the AdSense blog, we usually kick off each new year with a list of suggested AdSense resolutions for publishers. Although we still think using more 300x250 medium rectangles and setting up ad placements make great goals for the year, we'd like to change things up this time and share our resolutions with you.

In 2009, we resolve to continue improving the blog based on your needs and suggestions. We heard positive feedback and saw increases in readership last year in response to our themed campaigns, videos, and easier navigation to important posts. Beyond that, we want to continue looking for ways to ensure that this blog is a useful resource for you, whether you're looking for new feature releases or oldie-but-goodie optimization tips.

We also resolve to bring you more information from our team in new ways. In the new year, you'll hear more from the Product Managers who develop the AdSense features you use, and specialists on the AdSense team who will share their expertise with you. We've heard from many publishers that they want clearer, more transparent communication from our team, and we resolve to provide as much information as we can to address your questions and concerns.

Do you have suggestions for improving the blog, or types of content you'd like to see more of? We're all ears, so please feel free to leave us a comment below. It's a brand new year, and we're ready to get started!

I have a suggestion, improve competitive ad filter in this way. For example I have 4 websites 2 of them is related to seo and articles directory and 2 are completely entertainment websites. Right now what I see on my all websites is forex ads it might useful to have forex ads on seo or article site but on entertainment site there is no reason to display such ads.
So It would be a great feature to block advertisers for particular website not for all sites.

Thanks

I think it would be great to see more posts on how to setup competitive filters. Furthermore some tips on improving advertiser placement where geo-targeted ads are ad detriment to the readers experience and publishers pocket books. ;)

I think Adsense should:

1. Give personalized optimization tips and feedback for those who ask. This requires hiring more people but the ROI would probably be immediate.

2. A better explanation of the local currency conversions; I've read over 20+ forum posts of people complaining about the conversion rates Adsense uses to pay their publishers. This needs to be much more transparent.

3. Perhaps more explanations on ECPM, it seems so mysterious and constant fluctuations in visitors also effects this figure (when it shouldn't right?)..

great blog, I visit him every time when new post is published, and always find them very useful and educative.

There are three things I would like to see in adsense:

1. available video ads for my region, I am form Serbia but I have English language website,

2. western union payments for Serbia,

3. more freedom with ads customization

And when it comes to blog changes, well I wouldn’t change anything except few design changes :)

Regards from a satisfied adsense publisher, all the best in 2009, and keep up!!!

Not blog related but I think it would be great if each AdSense Pro that participates in the forums would resolve to answer at least one question a day in addition to the ones that are flagged by top contributors.

We *need* iPhone sized ads that fit better than the square banners. We would also like to be able to check our Adsense balance on an iPhone-optimized site.

January is both the month of New Years resolutions and 'prediction lists'. More than once i notice that those 'trends for 2009'-lists is the idea that this year we will see more and more advertisements in our feeds. The reading of content moved from blogs to rss readers like google reader.

Each and every page has an rss or some kind of syndication feed. And Google offers Adsense for feeds. And that works really well for the main rss feed of a site or blog that contains all your articles. But once you want add your ads to a lot of feeds. For example to all your comment-feeds for each article / thread, it does not work anymore because you have to add each feed to the adsense backend.

I hope there will be a way of adding google adsense ads to all of my rss feeds, as for many webprojects, rss feeds are becoming the only way you keep in touch with your readers.

I think this blog could also focus on being a publisher and how to improve adsense perfomance.

For example, goood Adsense means a lot of testing. This is in no way supported by Adsense and requires some kind of rotation script.

How can you test different colors and formats easily, how to manage your channels. What can ad manager do for the adsense publisher, how to prevent a ban, are there issues that a lot of adsense publishers face or get banned for that need extra attention, etc.

My Views:-

1. Be clear with, what not to do with adsense.
2. Support. One year before, adsense team would personally reply to all the emails. But now a days you guys just send some links to help topics. I can understand that, there are many people who are using adsense and many keep asking for the same things. But still as adsense is one of the main things for Google, hiring some more people for this purpose won't hurt.
3. Provide some more control over the ads. I want to have 190x90 ad format etc.
4. Start a blog for beginners. Explain each and ever aspect of adsense. Link to those posts in email, when someone asks those questions.
5. Improve "Competitive ad filter" as @JOJY said in the above comments.
6. Personal reviews of websites would be the best for both Google and the adsense publishers. Just review 20 to 40 websites each day. Tell whats wrong and what can be improved etc.
7. Help me earn more :) hihihi..U are always been a great revenue source. Thanks Google. And I am a proud Adsense Publisher.
I LOVE YOU GOOGLE..Happy New Year -- 2009
5.

This is not related to this post but I can't figure out how to get help. There is a problem with my adsense account. My payments are on hold. It says I need to contact you (ad sense). I have five times now and all I get is an automated response saying that it is fixed. But it is not fixed. How do we actually get help from someone at adsense. I could not figure out a way to get help except maybe to leave a comment here. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Oh and I have tried finding the answer to my question elsewhere and in the forum I can't find anyone with the same problem and the forum would not let me leave a question.

Hi All,

I've been working on Web Sites / Forums / Blogs, etc. for well over three years. I've used Google AdSence, Google Analytics, etc.

How about a personal advisor? I think that there is a great deal of creativity out there, but Google Cash isn't coming in to us.

I use Joomla!, SMF, and WP. And, Linux as my OS.

Any help?

I've said for years that Google is my friend.

I find the Adsense blog incredibly useful as it presents useful information in bite size pieces. It's easy to get lost in the help area.

I'd love to see some articles on using channels effectively.

Now that the option of linking Google analytics is available, is there any value in keeping the URL channels in the Adsense area?

If so, then the limit of 200 channels becomes awkward.

As to how to manage the rest.... I'd love advice.

Thanks
Anna

I'd love a post on how to get Customer Support to actually read your emails/forum posts and check on what's going on. Specially when you have been reporting a problem several times and in all cases the answer just doesn't have anything to do with the original question.

How about enabling AdSense for the AJAX API? Developers are begging for this. You want us to create applications using your APIs and data? Let us monetize them somehow.

How 'bout a way to moderate all the ads which appear on your site? This is really important because sometimes you get ads that you consider inappropriate, if not just unrelated.

What I would like to see on this blog is less promotion and more devotion. There seems little in the way of information that explains things or provides answers to issues people are having with the program.

Many of us have been suffering with unrelated diet, wrinkle cream, backache and other various lotions and potions advertisements on our sites since November.

There was a lengthy thread on this in the forums. Feedback from Google was some vague "we're working on it" and that was back in December.

I do not understand why there is such a lack of interest on giving publishers a bit more control over what is displayed on their sites. The competitive filter is no longer a viable solution when so many of the folks who are gaming the program are simply adding new sites on a daily basis.

My prediction for 2009 is for much diminished revenues for both Google and publishers in 2009 as long as these snake oil sellers are permitted to game the system and dominate our sites.

I've been experiencing the same unrelated adsense ads at weather.org which is clearly a weather website, not a diet, wrinkle cream, get rich quick or free government grant money site.

is there anything out there that does what adsense claims to do and keeps their promise to provide related advertising?

i really need to pull adsense off weather.org, but don't know what to replace it with.

Rod Ferris said...

Hey Pepper, just went to your site and I received all weather ads. Adsense is the best for inventory and related content; you wont find one better but there are supplemental sources of income that you can use.. ie. affiliate programs, content links etc..

pepper said...

The reason you see weather related ads is because i have blocked 200 of these unrelated sites, and i have to do this 3 times a day to stay on top of it.
