Extending AdSense for domains to all publishers

Many publishers have approached us looking for a way to monetize their domains, and today, we're excited to announce the expansion of AdSense for domains. This product allows publishers to earn revenue through ads placed on undeveloped domains.

With AdSense for domains, users can find relevant information rather than see empty pages or "page not found" errors. Today we present ads, links, and search results on the pages, and may add other useful information in the future. To ensure positive user experience and the quality of our network, these sites are monitored for policy compliance and prohibited from using text and images designed to confuse users.

Advertisers also have additional opportunities to find their customers, and ads on these pages convert well. In addition, we regularly receive requests from advertisers who have found domains to be an effective way to reach their users.

The product will be initially rolled out in phases to English-language AdSense publishers located in North America, and we'll expand to additional regions and languages in the future. To check whether AdSense for domains has been enabled for your account, log in and visit your AdSense Setup tab. For more information, please visit our Help Center.

Nice one Google... lets add even more rubbish onto the internet.
This is not a good idea

It is a good news! Waiting for the introduction of this functionality in Poland and other countries.

Well, it would be nice to get finally the analytics upgrade. Waiting for it for a ... um ... very, very long time. :|

This addon could be nice form of revenue for those who purchased misleading domain names like gogle.com, I guess they can do millions with a domain like that.

Maybe you started an avalanche and now everyone will register misleading domain names?

As someone who parks hundreds of generic type-in traffic domains, this seems like a great opportunity to cut out my parking company middleman.

Will individuals get similar rev share as large parking companies? What is the criteria?

My parking company takes somewhere between 20-40% I believe. Will I now be able to get that revenue?

Can we put analytics on our domains now to get better stats?

Richard said...

Will you be informing the advertisers about this change?

EM @ KING.NET said...

Advantage is to get rid of the third party aggregators and disadvantage Google controls everything ...

I will take it as advantage for the time being... generate more revenue without the middleman.

John said...

It is being reported on other blogs that this program being offered to individuals is using the content feed and not the search feed.

That is really unfair as you give the search feed to Domain Sponsor, Skenzo, Namedrive, etc.

I think i would be better off creating my own adsense for search and pre-popping the keyword in the search form to create my own parking page.

D said...

This could have both positive and negative effects on the domain name industry. Especially the parking companies might be affected very negatively if their most important business partner (Google) begins to directly compete with them.

But domain owners could also be forced to accept lower revenue shares if Google controls an even bigger share of the market. As a monopoly they can set the prices, so I'm not sure if cutting out the middle man will really result in more revenue in the long run.

I sure hope so, but other aspects come to mind, too: How much support can you expect when parking your domains with Google? Many established domain parking services offer excellent customer services. They also have a good reporting system for the stats, and they offer a variety of parking templates and image galleries.

All in all, I'm still not sure what to think of this. Could turn out to be good, but it could also turn out to be very bad.

Don't be evil, Google!

So when will this available for European users?

DennyHalim.com said...

so, can we put it on 404 not found page? to give users relevant content instead of blank 404 error page....???

Robert said...

This is great, because I think that in the end it doesnt matter if ads are served on a page containing content. A person may click on an ad because he sees something that interests him. So ads on undeveloped sites may also lead to sales for advertisers. I think this is a good thing.

Google bashing seems to be alive and well doesn't it, wow.

I think it's a smart move by Google. It took me 15 minutes from start to finish to set this up, including reading time. The domains I own for my upcoming projects were sitting idle and showing "cannot be found" anyway so why not have them show ads someone might actually find useful.

A+ move Google, thank you.

Mike Lopez said...

Definitely a good idea and many publishers will love it. I don't think it'll end up with more rubbish on the internet because the domains will have relevant ads anyway.

I do not like this idea... I already hate the fact that domain parkers are not only able to earn huge amounts of money on SELLING domains but also before these domains are sold.

At websitejudge we try to avoid these domains even if they can earn us a lot of traffic.

It would be wise if Google would also do this (it would improve the user experience now wouldn't it?)

I've been an AdSense publisher for many years and since I have about 1,600 domain names this is super great news. But I will not be replacing all my domains that are parked at TrafficZ. Some earn well while others not so much. This just gives us a way to earn more with the domains that are not working with other parking services. Since this is an extension of the AdSense program, I don't expect to see large CPC, but I do expect that more of my existing traffic will be monetized and that's really great.

Note to others: I think you CAN put the Google search on your 404 error pages, just not the ads. Check the TOS to make sure that's still valid.

And I don't think you can pre-populate the search box, but again you need to read and review the TOS from time to time. AdSense is a great program and those that have not followed the rules and gotten kicked out know that. Follow the rules and don't get greedy or stupid. :-)

EM @ KING.NET said...

This is addition to your existing content ads, definitely you have some domains waiting to develop and this program will benefit you more.

I'm looking forward to use this service and centralize my revenue in one place.

Domain parking is already seriously detrimental to businesses struggling to get domain names relevant to their businesses. Enabling squatters to profit without providing any sort of useful content is bad enough. Encouraging it is contrary to Google's stated goals and very foundation. I use nearly every Google service and love most, but this one is disappointing at best.

Hey Goog
You may need to hire some domain parking company software engineers to fix the archaic stats presentation within the control panel.

Google can do better. Can (IT) not?

Bryan said...

How come this feature hasn't been enabled in my account? I'm in North America.

Anthony said...

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful..

The only thing missing is knowing WHICH ad on a page generated the hit - was it the leaderboard, the big one in the middle, the one in the sidebar?

But even without that, this is great stuff. I've been begging and whining about this for years and here it is!

I just found out about Adsense for domains, a couple of minutes ago… So this [very-recent] news is good timing!!

From a web search I just did, I saw that "Adsense for Domains" has been available for years, but only to those domains that have high traffic. Does this latest news mean that all domains (even those that don't yet have high traffic) will be eligible?

Thanks!!

Google is a pot calling a kettle black.

Why would you slap MFA sites for being search engine spam, and then turn around a make it easier than ever for people to create more search engine spam?

this is one of those "Do No Evil" things where you're crossing the line.

anyway you can help? We have written many emails to adsense about our adsense account somehow disappearing. Although we are still serving ads on our site and have had correspondence from you, suddenly, our account is not longer accessible. After writing to various contact forms on the google adsense and adwords pages and also phoning google in the UK for help, we have only received auto-replys and this has been nearly 2 weeks that we are trying to reach you.

thanks

ADSENSE IS the biggest scam on the net. They give you an account build your blog get tons of hits and they refuse to pay then cancel your account. They should go to JAIL for these constant scams. I assume they keep all the money from the clicks. 90% of accounts get cancelled by the way people. Why would any fool even advertise with these shlups is beyond me.

Jens said...

Wow, that's realy a nice new option!

Is it possible that, at some point in the near future, 'Adsense for Domains' users will have the ability to include customized text or links on our domain pages? Many of us are interested in selling these domains. Some type of 'inquiry' link would be beneficial.

LobKing said...

That's realy a nice new option, but for non North America users can we use temporary normal adsense code into one page website on the homepage till this option is available for the rest of the world?

The piper plays the fiddle and you guys come running?! Have you lost your minds? Just a few months ago, parking domains was declared as unwanted and bad business. Now, the company that redefines double standards is promoting domain parking themselves?!
People! Please tell me that you're smarter than that!

Yes, parking domains is an unwanted and bad business. Especially when other people could use those domains in a positive way.

For me this is great, because I can take some of my unused domains and do something with them while waiting to get the time to fully deploy them.

In AdSense for Domains registrar info ... the first listing called "General Instructions for Any Registrar" shows a Javascript error and there is no way to get info about registrars not listed. HELP!

Sean Walther said...

Threecord --

I posted a followup to the google article on my website which contains directions, Google Adsense for Domains.

Basically you need to setup a CNAME at your DNS host pointing to a specific host (pub-[your adsense id].afd.ghs.google.com) and setup a blank "A" record pointing to 216.239.32.21.

If you have any more questions check out my blog and/or email me, I'd be glad to help. The process is fairly easy.

Marat said...

AdSense was good.. But this? You just pushed the "Flood the internet with spam domains" button. Do you realize that you are now paying for spam to get listed on your search engine? This is detrimental, people use google because it finds things. This will obviously kill startup publishers looking for a relevant domain name for their content-based websites. This is an attempt to kill the middleman market and be the boss. The people in here saying its good are blind: They dont see that the new middleman is google and once there wont be alternative middleman left, google will have the power to adjust the rev share due to 0 competition. You guys are going nuts if you cant see whats happening. It's awful news for the history of internet as we know. Google started off well but the direction it's taking is dangerous for everyone except them.

This is a great idea and I welcomed Adsense for Domains when it finally reached the UK. However I am upset that Google offer no support or help to their publishers like myself who have followed their instructions on setting up their names EXACTLYT as they say to do so and the domains still don't get picked up!!!!! So I won't be bothering, have been trying to get this set up for over 3 weeks now. Waste of time until you get it sorted Google!!!!

The above 2 posts from wow gold person are obviously spam posts! ;-/
-------

But my Question is: There seems to be a lot of confusion when I search for info about this... people are saying you cannot use "AdSense for Domains" unless you have a DEVELOPED website, but your google info says for UNDEVELOPED domains.

So I have domain names I bought and are sitting at NetFirms.com. When I learned of AFD recently, I'd like to try it, but do I need to create a "dummie page" first, for each domain name? It sounds to me like google will provide the links, search results, etc. for the page.

Also, trying to find answers as to whether NetFirms will work with AFD. Search results are showing that NetFirms won't let you put the @ symbol in the DNS, etc. So Netfirms customers are asking, what is the workaround for this? (threads at AFD HELP/Support, etc.)

But nobody from Google answers. Please fill us in.

Many thanks.

I have been trying for weeks to get my parked dpmain up with adSense for domains. I have done evrything right and even went to my host and had them check it as well to see if anything was wrong. Why is it that I cant get verified. You can get ahold of any real person to ask at googlo adsense. All I want to do is have my parked domains used for something while tyhey set unused. Does anyone have an anwser for me as to what to do to get this fixed. (although I doubt it as I have tried everything)
