Bigger is better - for AdSense ad unitsAdSense for content is the bread and butter of many of our publishers, and we often receive requests to recommend strategies to improve AdSense performance on publisher sites. While we refer to this as 'optimisation', we understand that this term can make the process sound more difficult than it really is. In response, we're releasing a three-part video series that demonstrates, in plain English, our top tips for increasing your AdSense earnings.
This week, we're recommending you think big - big ad units, that is:
Publishers often ask us what the best ad sizes are to include in their site's design, and we always point them to these three:
- 300x250 medium rectangle
- 728x90 leaderboard
- 160x600 skyscraper
When you're considering how to design your site, our testing has shown that displaying at least one of these ad formats on your page can increase your AdSense earnings potential. So remember, sometimes bigger is better!

Why 300x250, not 336x280 ???
I think large rectangle is larger than medium rectangle..
I'm sorry to say this because I love adsense but are you guys even reading what we post here. I've already posted this question in another comment and it was not related to that. I just need help because I don't know what to do to so that you release my payments. I've contacted you several times with no success.
I've set a hold on my account a couple of weeks ago and then after 3 days I've decided that I wanted the money and deselected the box - this was prior to the 15 of the month (September). Something came up and I couldn't go and get my money when I was supposed to, and now my payment is on hold - I don't know why.
I'm now in Octomber and it says that my payment is on hold and that I should contact support. The hold box is unchecked, and all that I'm supposed to do is done - I've checked 5 times. I've contacted support 8 times with no answer except some automated answer that has nothing
to do with what I need.
Can anyone help? What I'm I suppose to do so that I can receive
payments?
Thank you for any suggestions!

What's up with these "Yes on Proposition 8" ads that are running on my blog? My blog isn't remotely political in nature, I strongly oppose this measure, and I thought Google took a public stance against it?
I'm trying to filter them out via my adsense dashboard but they keep showing up.
This is a really hypocritical move of Google to not only take money from these people (people they publicly opposed) but then to throw these ads on innocent sites in the content network. It is not remotely in line with my site's branding and I want them gone. It seems the only way to stop it is to tear all the adsense code right out of the pages, which I am close to doing.
Isn't "optimisation" spelled "optimization"?
;)
Regarding Jason's comment above. I've sent angry letters to three websites (Live Journal, Hack A Day, PvP) criticizing the ads, how off topic they are, and how likely they are to piss off consumers (it's a close race, odds are good you are offending half your audience). This was before I found out the Google was to blame. If I were an adsense customer I would be very angry at this torpedoing of good public relations.
The whole idea of adsense is that the ads are appropriate and targeted. That's why we let you read our email and spy on on web habits. The intrusion was supposed to be relevant. (And it wasn't supposed to get us upset at the website owner unfairly).
Heck, I'm angry at you. Now I have to go apologize to people for taking out my issues with you on them.

In the U.S., yes, but not in the U.K. and parts of the English-speaking world where the British ruled or were influential on the culture.
AdSense has users all over the world, and I'd assume its staff is from around the world, too.
I'm an adsense user who had to shut off his ads today because of hateful "Yes on 8" ads taking over my page.
When I signed up for adsense, I signed up for targeted ads. I did not sign up to allow anyone with too much money to put messages of lies and intolerance on my blog.
A statement from Google about how this happened, and how it's not going to happen again, would be very appropriate.
You know Adsense is starting to piss me off. Why is it my travel blog has ads all over it today for vote yes on prop 8 which defines marriage between a man and a woman.
You should pay every advertiser for running that crap because it doesn't belong on our blogs and it's a sure bet they paid Google well for the ads.
it also is made to look like a public service announcement and if it is it's nice to know Google is against gay marriage.
I'm pretty pissed off at the Yes on Prop 8 ads as well, they are appearing on all my sites and I strongly oppose it. VERY irritating and disappointing!
hahaha my favorite color! The bigger the better!
Excellent tips. I am using the bigger ad size. But I have one problem...sometimes one image ad is shown in all the three spots of ads.
I do not agree with this, at least for my sites, 160x600 is the worst, and then 728x90, and 336x280 is better than 300x250. Links 728x15 and 200x90 work best for me.
Adsense isn't working for me and I can't get it to go away, please help!
i just can decide which color i choose.. lots of good color so i resort to have white adsense
thanks google
rencalago....I think you can blend your color. it will automatically suit with your color. I think size of ad depends on the site's characteristics. as I mentioned earlier sometimes same ad is displayed at all the ad spots of my site. can anyone advise?
hi guys...i want to ask how can i place my ads to the right of the content just like in this video?
sorry im a newbie
great...but I've try this many times in to my blog, but there's an error when i paste code to my template.....
