Show me the ads

After months of testing, we've just updated our text ad format to include 'next' and 'previous' arrow buttons for cost-per-click (CPC) ads. When a user clicks on the 'next' button, an entirely new group of ads will appear in the ad unit, giving your users greater control over the ads they see and click.

While the ads the user initially sees may be relevant to a publisher's content, they may not be precisely what the user is seeking -- for example, a user may see ads about cheddar and brie cheese but would prefer more information about Swiss cheese. With the 'next' and 'previous' buttons, users can view more cheese ads until a Swiss cheese ad appears.

You won't generate earnings for clicks on the 'next' and 'previous' buttons, but these buttons will help improve both advertiser value and your potential revenue. When users click on the buttons, they begin interacting with the ads and are more likely to find the specific offering they're looking for, which can lead to higher earnings for you.

thanks for reply so fast (incredible), but I can't find the answer for my question: My blog's main language is currently not the support language of GoogleAdsense (my web is already approved by google, but i can only place search box on it). Can I change the language of my website to use all the features of Adsense (AdSense for Content, refferal)and how to notify the google team about the change ?

I don't receive any revenue for "Next" or "Previous" ads?!

WHY NOT??!!!

C'mon Google, share the joy!

Hi zed,

To clarify, you won't receive revenue for clicks on the actual 'next' or 'previous' arrow buttons, but you will receive revenue for valid clicks on the ads which appear after a user clicks those arrow buttons. Sorry for any confusion!

HAHA!!!

Show me the ads, but don't show us the money should be the title of this Blog!

We have been running adsense for 2 weeks on one of our sites. We were doing between $100.00 - $200.00 per day. Today Google dropped our rates from about $1.30 eCPM to $0.03 per eCpm. Nothing has changed! Our click throughs are the same, the amount of traffic is the same etc.

So why the SUDDEN drop in rates with no rhyme or reason?

there is no phone number to contact anyone, no email address to get in touch with anyone. What kind of publisher network is this?

Its becomming more and more competitive to google and the cut throat competition is making google to work harder and bring the best out of it.This arrows are the result of that.No matter what ever google does becomes popular these days.Even if they do a silly thing that will become a thing to talk. For ex,see how they used the word called scrap in ORKUT.Whats the actual meaning of SCRAP.But people ask daily why you haven't scraped me.People are begging for scraps in orkut.Google has the power to change the world and the words.Come on google you people rock.Yet another invention or discovery what ever you say.O am very eager to see how these arrows work.Couldn't understand why these arrows were and feared of clicking of those on my own thinking google might ban me for life time. So,clicked on some one else site and came to understand that these are known as arrows.

page impression 190 and still i am not getting nothing to pay. can you tell me how can increse my pay. thank you.

onicdesigns said...

Maybe you should do a follow up post to clairafy that we do get paid on the advertisments click on in the Next, Prev screen, but when they click on the acutal buttons Next, Prev we are not paid for that. If we visit our site and always see Next, and Prev ads. does that mean all we are getting are CPC advertisements?

Andrew said...

Ah, I was so surprised when I saw those buttons at first. Thought it was something special the site I was visiting had.

I personally think its a smart move. Its one of those things which when you hear/read first feels like that this is so obvious why didn't somebody thought of it before. Well done Google Adsense team

Thanks for the clarification about the arrows, that makes sense now! Is the feature automatically available to the Adsense panels we already have, or are these special links that we need to set up to have this feature?

------- What most likely changed is how much an advertiser is willing to pay for the clicks. My limited understanding of Adwords is that advertisers can see how many times their ads got clicked on and how much they had to pay to Google for that. If the advertisers see no profit, then it's natural that they can decide to pay less for the ads they place with Adwords.

1) Someone clicking on an ad in the adsense unit is taken to the landing page of the ad, and publisher gets credit for the click ; end of story
2) Otherwise, someone clicking on the previous/next arrows sees new ads that ad unit, but publisher gets no credit for the click (maybe no click and definitely no earning); Go to 1
3) Otherwise, someone clicking something else ends up someplace else; end of story

Bottom line: publisher get credit (and earnings) for valid clicks on any of the ads on that adsense unit, whether visible or not. Since it is impossible to click the ad if it is not visible, the previous/next arrows constitute the mechanism for making a particular ad visible or not.

Any comments on this interpretation?

the design and size of these arrows need a little work - too big, grey and clunky for my liking - they tend to dominate the ad space!

Cayman said...

Maybe it is a nice feature BUT do you really think that someone from normal visitors will play the game with the arrow buttons to have more and more ads? WHY?

I don't understand why Google has wasted development time with this functionality. In these days visitors are either blocking ads automatically (in Firefox) or are "blind" for any ad.

What do you think? Wouldn't be better to display price per click for all ads to inform Adsense publishers? Or what about to increase the number of URLs in Competitive Ad Filter? This would be improvement!

Thanks.

Hi,

over the past 14days my total earnings have remained at $20.80, despite an increase in all the other figures;
(page impressions, page eCPM etc...)

Can somebody please explain to me, why this is? As it is clear that adds on my site are being clicked and their content viewed.

Thankyou,
Simon.

I have added multiple adsense ads to my blog through the layout section, but only one will show up.
My blog url is http://techgrotto.blogspot.com/

suggestions?

atomicvelvetsigh said...

verdelizard.. this is so because google ads have a rule of 3 ad codes per page. the one that doesn't appear may have been the 4th already. this happened to me as well.

I was wondering why even though my ads to my Web sites were being clicked 100s of times, I was getting no money for this? That's pretty cheap of the advertisers, getting free ads!!! Make it worth my while, or the ads get removed. They are cluttering up my Web pages, anyway!

First of all. Can't believe the amount of spam in this blogpost's comment section. Good work Google!

Anyways, i am not really happy with these scroll arrows on my sites. I really wish there was a way to make them look better. Or probably there was an option via which i could enable or disable these arrows while i create/edit a new unit of adsense. Can something be done about this?

My clicks are simply not registering.

In comparing my Statcounter exit stats against Adsense reports.... I am seeing about 10x the Adsense clicks in Statcounter vs Adsense itself...

What is going on?

Thanks...
